MPE SOPRONI EVANGÉLIUMI GYÜLEKEZET

The Church introduces itself

Evangelical Church of Sopron in Hungary is a member of the Hungarian Pentecostal Church, which is among the recognized churches in Hungary. Globally, it belongs to the Pentecostal charismatic movement, which has approximately 625 million members worldwide. Our congregation was founded in 1996 through the collaboration and ministry of a young theologian and a Finnish missionary couple. Our community is characterized by youthful, dynamic worship services and a familial, hospitable atmosphere that has developed over the years.

Declaration – Our Evangelical Creed

We believe that the church is the realm of God’s sovereignty, where things should happen according to God’s order and will. The church, the body of the Messiah, is a living body composed of people:
  1. Who have responded positively to the gospel, which is an invitation to enter the Kingdom of God. (However, we acknowledge that there are individuals in our community who are still in the process of making this decision.)
  2. Who strive to serve one another through the Spirit, and practice fellowship with the Lord and with each other, thereby fulfilling the two greatest commandments of God’s Kingdom: Love the Lord your God, and love your neighbor as yourself.
  3. Who share the invitation to God’s Kingdom (the gospel) with others so that this Kingdom can grow and break into the world.
When we met Norbi in the mid-90s, it quickly became clear that God spoke to both of us about Sopron. When Norbi graduated from Bible school, we moved to Sopron at the same time. The work started with a tent mission, and soon we were holding regular meetings at the METESz headquarters. The work had many great stages, and today we are grateful that we obeyed God's call to come to Sopron and thus begin this church plant. - Jyrki Palmi - Memories

Objectives in Sopron

Our goal is to fulfill the two greatest commandments based on Jesus’ teachings in our individual, family, and congregational-community lives: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself.”
  1. To seek and worship God in the congregation, and to grow in this together, not only within the community but also in our individual lives on a daily basis.
  2. To realize genuine community life and service in the Spirit with love during and after our worship services.
  3. To facilitate the personal spiritual growth and maturity of our members, that is, becoming disciples.
  4. To promote the discovery and full development of personal gifts and ministries.
  5. To pray and do everything to ensure that God’s sovereign reign operates through our lives in our immediate and broader environment (family, relatives, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and our city) with the power of the gospel, resulting in conversions!
  6. To build relationships with the entire body of the Messiah under the guidance of the Spirit.
Our mission: Loving God and our fellow humans, and through our lives, faith, and teaching in harmony with the Bible, to authentically present and make God’s saving, eternal life-giving love as accessible to as many people as possible.

Bible study

Within the framework of our Bible Study, we warmly welcome anyone who:

  • Wishes to study the Holy Scripture in community.
  • Wants to get to know the perspectives of brothers and sisters from various backgrounds.
  • Would like to share their knowledge and gifts in this area.
  • Desires to be refined into unity with the brethren here.
  • Wishes to receive encouragement in the practice of faith according to the Word.
  • Wants to clarify disputed questions with an open Bible.

It does not matter how much knowledge you have; feel free to come and grow with us in the Lord and ask your questions. It is also fine if we do not agree on everything. We believe that in love and humility, we can bear many things.

Our Bible study is conducted by reading a passage together, comparing different translations and the original text (Hebrew, Greek), and then, verse by verse, everyone can share what they have received from it. Naturally, there is enough time for everyone.

Youth Group

We cordially invite all young people to our bi-weekly gathering, whether you are a seeker, a believer, with or without a denominational background, etc. Feel free to come and look around if you:

  • Wish to find new friends in your age group.
  • Desire deeper conversations than in a traditional circle of friends.
  • Need something constructive and of eternal value instead of weekend parties.
  • Have questions and topics you haven't found a partner to share with yet.
  • Have been hurt by religion but are interested in a relationship with Jesus.
  • Want to relax over dinner and some games in a diverse company.

So come freely and be yourself among us! Here, you do not have to meet any expectations or social pressure. Our motto for you is: "Let no one despise your youth..." (I Timothy 4:12)

The gathering usually takes place at the Kristály business center, unless otherwise indicated in the specific event details. If you need assistance or a ride to get there and back, please feel free to contact our organizers.
